El Cajon is a vibrant community surrounded by hills and rural valleys. Offering the East County Performing Arts Center, shopping, restaurants, and other amenities, the downtown area recently received a National Main Street Certification. Located southeast of San Diego, El Cajon lies along the I-8 corridor and is an easy commute from most points in the county.
El Cajon comprises several communities including Fletcher Hills, Bostonia, Crest, Granite Hills, Dehesa, and Grossmont. Many of these areas, including Flinn Springs, Crest, Dehesa, and Harbison Canyon offer a rural small-town feel that harkens back to old California, with horse properties and large lots. Fletcher Hills has a large number of apartment complexes, many of which are being turned into condominiums.
There are several newly planned communities in the area offering luxury ranch and spanish style homes, such as Singing Hills Estates, Monarch Ridge, and Canyon View Estates. These are located in close proximity to El Cajon’s business and shopping districts such as Grossmont Center, Parkway Plaza, a leading shopping area with over 200 stores and restaurants, and the region’s two community colleges.
Rancho San Diego, with its population of 19,400 people, is a master-planned community covering 4,800 acres. Conveniently located south of El Cajon and northeast of Spring Valley, this rural community offers a peaceful lifestyle.
