Encinitas, incorporated in 1986, includes the communities of Leucadia, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, and Olivenhain, as well as the town of Encinitas. A beach community, the area is famous for Swami's, Moonlight Beach and its six miles of Pacific coastline. Two coastal estuaries, Batiquitos Lagoon and San Elijo mark the northern and southern edge of Encinitas.
Comprising old Encinitas, the original area along the coastline and Highway 101 and the fast growing "New Encinitas”, an area of development along the El Camino Real corridor, the city has plenty to offer. Coastal cottages, restaurants and antique shops mark old Encinitas while New Encinitas has a variety of commercial and service businesses, new homes and large shopping centers. It is an attractive area for families who enjoy the suburban lifestyle, new developments, and highly rated schools.
With a variety of housing options from The Village Park bedroom community along the main shopping route of Encinitas Boulevard, to the spectacular luxury homes of Encinitas Ranch, Country Rose, Knightsbridge, and Bello Mar, there are many choices in this large area. Saxony, Summerhill, and Cambria feature condominiums and townhomes, some with ocean views. Quail Gardens and Coast Point, two new planned communities, offer mid-priced single-family homes and Maravu boasts some of the area’s most beautiful, newly constructed spanish style houses.
Olivenhain, an historic rural California town, has spectacular homes with incredible ocean views. Many hilltop estate communities have been built in this former Olive Grove located just minutes from the Encinitas and the Pacific.
