Headquarters for the sporting set, both Pacific Beach and Mission Beach join together on a strip of land between the Pacific Ocean and to the east, Mission Bay Park-a teeming recreation area for sailing and personal watercraft use. The largest population group in this area is 25 to 34 years old, and is popular with singles. There is a lively bar scene near the beach, and surfing is very popular. Retail businesses line the narrow strip of Mission Blvd, which runs from Pacific Beach south to Mission Beach. Mission Bay Park is to the east, with fairly high density housing on its western edge.
