Point Loma, located just minutes from downtown San Diego, has long been a Navy stronghold. The peninsula is home to 63,000 residents who enjoy its location near the heart of the city and its spectacular skyline and ocean views. In the 90s, the Navy announced plans to close the Naval Training Center that occupied large tracts of prime land. The City of San Diego planned to replace the Naval Training Center with a mixed-use project that will include homes, offices, shopping, cultural and arts facilities, a boat channel and hotels. Liberty Station, as it is now known, is being developed by the Corky McMillan Company. Liberty Station will include three distinct neighborhoods, totaling 349 residences: Beacon Point will comprise 129 detached row homes, Admiralty Row will include 80 single-family detached homes, and Anchor Cove will include 140 town homes. In keeping with the rich architectural history of the Loma Portal area, one of Point Loma’s oldest neighborhoods, the detached homes of Admiralty Row and Beacon Point will showcase an eclectic mix of Spanish, Mediterranean and Italian designs. Anchor Cove will feature Mission Revival architecture reminiscent of early California mission buildings.
The older neighborhoods on the peninsula include Loma Portal, Centraloma, Roseville, Fleetridge, the Midway District, Point Loma Heights, Woods, Wooded Acres and La Playa. Point Loma’s housing varies from condominiums and townhomes in the aforementioned Liberty Station, as well as Village Green and La Playa. The Roseville subdivision, Loma Portal, and Point Loma Heights include single-family detached homes ranging in price to the millions for large custom homes with skyline, beach and bay views.
