Located 20 miles north of downtown San Diego along the I-5 freeway, Solana Beach is an upscale, small city tucked between Encinitas and Del Mar. Solana Beach stretches from the ocean into the hills of Lomas Santa Fe, then levels off again toward Rancho Santa Fe. Incorporated in 1986, Solana Beach has approximately 14,000 residents.
West of the I-5 freeway is the older part of town, also known as Olde Solana Beach. In order to provide the town with the spectacular ocean views it enjoys today, Fletcher Cove was created using hydraulic water pressure to erode tons of earth in the 1920s. Pacific Coast Highway and nearby Cedros Avenue are lined with quaint antique shops, the Cedros Design District, galleries, restaurants, and shops. Many of the homes in Olde Solana Beach are cottages with expansive vistas over the Pacific. Many of the original beach cottages have been renovated and expanded, while others have been replaced with larger, more luxurious homes.
To the east of the I-5 freeway is the Lomas Santa Fe golf course. The nearby homes in Santa Fe Hills, Solana Hills and Lomas Santa Fe were built in the past 20 years. Featuring ranch, Spanish, contemporary and Mediterranean style architecture, most of the properties are large and offer views inland across the valleys or west to the Pacific.
Prices for condominiums in Solana Beach begin in the $500,000s with detached homes close to and over $1 million. Solana Beach is served by some of the highest rated schools in California and offers coastal Southern California living at its best.
